What are the Academy Awards?

The Academy Awards are hosted in Los Angeles and are presented at the Dolby Theatre (formerly known as the Kodak Theatre). The theatre is located on Hollywood Boulevard in the Hollywood district. Why are the Academy Awards called “The Oscars?”
